Abstract:

As the most developed metropolis, it is vital to make sure that all the functions of Shanghai run well, which will guarantee the stable development of all industries of country. For Shanghai city, the biggest threat of various disasters is the damage to its functions. This article aims to study the space distribution of man-made disasters which can be prevented and will influence the city functions. The study covers the core area and suburbs of Shanghai, accounting for about 16% of Shanghai area, which include whole Yangpu, Zhabei, Hongkou, Putuo, Changning, Jing’an, Luwan, Xuhui, Huangpu districts and partial area of Baoshan, Jiading, Minhang, Nanhui and Pudong districts, totally 146 towns and streets which are most populated and urbanized. We carried out following work on the study of man-made disasters of Shanghai: firstly, we collected the data of man-made disasters from 2000 to 2006 following the international disasters database and Shanghai city disasters research; secondly, space positioning has been done with geographic coding function through ArcGIS platform; thirdly, man-made disasters density drawing has been made through Spatial Analyst functional module of ArcGIS platform to determine the high incidence district and the distribution of man-made disasters; last, analyzing the distribution regulation of high incidence district and environmental factors related to disasters, and forecasting the trend of such district, putting forward counter measures. The main conclusions are as followings:There are 36 high incidence districts which divided into 7 types. The distribution features in area concentricity, So 5 concentricity areas are marked out from high incidence districts. The distribution areas, which located in different districts with different space characteristics, present various disaster features. After the comparison of environmental factors and disaster types and incidence conditions of disaster high incidence areas, the occurrence of man-made disasters has the close relationship with environmental factors.
